Bringing Garbage to the Clean Center | Tachikawa City
How to Dispose of Hazardous Waste Containing Mercury
In Tokyo, five incinerator plants were shut down between June and July 2010 due to contamination by mercury contained in combustible waste.Fortunately, mercury concentrations in exhaust gas emissions at the Tachikawa City Clean Center are currently below emission standard levels, but we are concerned about the increase in the concentration of mercury in our emissions seen in our continuous measurements.
If incineration at the Clean Center stops, it will have a major impact on waste disposal in the area, including delays in daily waste collection operations, and it will also be very expensive to restore the incinerator to normal operation.
Tachikawa City collects sorted fluorescent lamps, thermometers and dry-cell batteries, etc., and engages in recycling activities.I ask that citizens continue to cooperate in sorting and separating their garbage.
If you have an incident involving mercury contamination, please consult a specialist.(The city will not accept hazardous waste.)
